Lagos-based Bature Brewery collabs with Brixton Brewery

Lagos’ Bature Brewery has taken part in its maiden international collaboration, working with Brixton Brewery to showcase Nigeria’s finest fruit

‘Mangoes to Lagos’ tropical pale ale features “lashings of juicy, sweet mango sourced directly from farms and markets in Lagos”, and represents a fusion between Bature Brewery’s seasonal sensation ‘Mango Disco Juice’ and Brixon Brewery’s ‘Mangoes to Brixton’ – not only showcasing a mutual passion for Nigeria’s finest fruit, but a coming together of cultures, too.

Collaborating across continents, the breweries worked to combine Bature’s target flavour and Naija style with Brixtons technical knowledge, and once the brew was on, creative teams expertly combined Brixton’s Limited Edition labels with Bature’s now iconic colourful art and design, the companies said.

Bayo Ijasan from Bature Brewery said: “With Lagos and Brixton’s finest craft breweries coming together at last, this truly is the collaboration of dreams! We have fused our recipes to create a fruit bowl of a beer, which will transport drinkers to Nigeria’s orchards with its hazy, revitalising and totally tropical mango taste.

“We’ve been the vanguard of the craft beer market in Nigeria, experimenting with local flavours, spices and fruits, and we’ve packed all that experience into our first international collaboration.

“Our connection with Brixton Brewery goes all the way back to when Bature first began, and Brixton also has a huge West African community, so launching ‘Mangoes to Lagos’ has allowed us to show our connection with the arts, music and cultural scene as a cross reference with Lagos and Brixton. We hope Mangoes to Lagos gets people excited about our beers and the West African scene, and we can’t wait to do more with Brixton and across the globe.”

Francesco Mayell, Co-Head Brewer, Brixton Brewery, added: “We put our heads together and came up with an ambitious yet carefully calibrated recipe that has turned into a beautiful, balanced and supremely drinkable beer. The best part of collaborations like these for us brewers is getting a glimpse into how our colleagues next door or next continent think and sharing hard earned insights.”
