Anspach & Hobday launch new Christmas beer

London-based craft brewery Anspach & Hobday have announced the launch of their brand-new Christmas beer, The Pfeffernüsse Stout.

The Pfeffernüsse Stout, available to the public on Monday 16th November is available as a four-pack, four-pack gift wrapped in A&H wrapping paper, twelve-pack or full case of 24 on the web store.

Chairman and Co-Founder Jack Hobday says: ‘In these turbulent times we hope our evocative Christmas Stout will still raise a little cheer this Christmas for friends, family and all our loyal customers. From myself, Paul and the whole brewing team: Thank you & Merry Christmas!

Head of Production and Co-Founder Paul Anspach says: ‘With the move of all Saison production to our Bermondsey Arch House site, it felt like the right time to take our Christmas beer in a new, darker direction.

“We’ve used all the same spices as are present in both the biscuit and the old beer, but paired it this time with a smooth, brooding Stout. Where the Saison was dry and spicy, the Stout is rich and roasted, with the festive spices sitting making themselves known from the off.

“The dark malts give a gentle roastiness, and Centennial, Columbus and East Kent Golding hops bring layers of dark fruit, citrus and spice.’

The Pfeffernüsse Stout is based on the German Christmas biscuit Pfeffernüsse, which translates into English as pepper nut.

Anspach & Hobday have been brewing Pfeffernüsse inspired beers every year since they started home brewing in 2012. The most recent edition was last year’s The Pfeffernüsse Saison.

Based on the German Christmas biscuit of the same name, The Pfeffernüsse Stout brings together a rich, malty stout with the perfect blend of festive spice. Ginger and cinnamon dominate the nose with biscuity malts and warming spices joining on the palate. Merry Christmas!
