Innis & Gunn debuts Hopped Bourbon Cask Ale

Scottish brewery Innis & Gunn has launched one of the first beers from its Perth brewery, Hopped Bourbon Cask Ale.

The 7.4% Imperial Red Ale was dry hopped during maturation in first-filled bourbon casks.

Hopped Bourbon Cask Ale has been brewed with Ahtanum, Hallertau Hersbrucker and Super Styrian hops.

According to the brewery, it has notes of “Turkish Delight, dried cherries and lychees” that work “in harmony” alongside the hop bill and barrel maturation.

The beer, limited to 40,000 bottles, combines a malt mix of Pale Ale, Crystal, Raw Wheat and Rye Crystal.

Dougal Gunn Sharp, founder and master brewer at Innis & Gunn, explained: “One of the best things about brewing is discovering new flavours that emerge when experimenting with different hops.

“The distinct taste of Turkish Delight really hit me and I knew instantly that we were on to a winner. I’m excited to share this with craft beer fans across the UK. The Hopped Bourbon Cask Ale is one of our first limited editions to be brewed at the new Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth, which is giving us the opportunity to experiment with flavours and brewing processes in a new way.

“This is the first time we’ve dry hopped one of our beers and I’m thrilled with the results. The Hopped Bourbon Cask Ale is just the start and we’ve already got some exciting ideas to brew next year.”
