The Sarratt-based company, jointly-owned by Neil Hodges and Rob Atkinson, is brewing using a 5BBL brew house.
It currently offers two cask-conditioned ales. ‘Win Win’ is a 4.2% best bitter made with five malts with British and American hops, giving a subtle bitterness.
Paradigm’s other beer, ‘Low Hanging Fruit’ is a pale ale made using spring malt from Suffolk and hops from New Zealand & America. It has citrusy flavours with grapefruit dominating and hints of tangerine.
“We’re serious about our beer but we’re determined not to take ourselves too seriously. In our former working lives, we had to endure the insanity that is corporate marketing, so ‘paradigm’ is a gentle subversion of the world we left,” explains Neil.
He adds: “If you have ever been in a meeting where people use trendy jargon and silly phrases they don’t really understand, if you’ve ever been on a ‘management realignment workshop’ or seen ‘W1A’ or ‘2012’ on TV, you’ll understand. Our beers are named after those buzzwords.”
The duo took on its premises at Green End Farm in Sarratt in November 2014 and
began the fit out, nearly all of which we they did themselves.
“Three months of graft later we were in a position to try out our equipment and move to test brewing. Since January we have been refining our recipes and learning our trade,” says Neil.
In the short term, Paradigm is concentrating on casks and distribution to local pubs and beer festivals.
Over the next three months it’ll also be expanding its production from 20 casks per week to 40 per week and taking on Amersham, Chesham, the Chalfonts, Gerrards Cross, Watford & St Albans as its home territories.
The company also has a basic bottling capability and will start looking at bottle distribution toward the end of the year.
