Pretty Decent Beer Co Opens Brewery and Taproom On The Blackhorse Beer Mile

Independent London brewery making progressive, seasonal beer, Pretty Decent Beer Co are launching a new brewery and taproom on the Blackhorse Beer Mile on Friday 9th December – becoming the latest addition to one of the most exciting brewing neighbourhoods in the country.

The new site will house a state of the art 1500 litre brewhouse, as well as 20 taps of everchanging beer brewed fresh onsite – with weekly special beer releases, alongside core beer favourites (such as their Session IPA ‘I Could Get Better At T*sco For a Quid’, a soft juicy 4.5% IPA named in tribute to an early Google Review).

With their original Forest Gate taproom always having had a focus on local community, the team wanted any move to still be within the same borough in London, and so jumped at the chance to move into a former motor repair shop in an industrial district in Blackhorse Road, E17 allowing them to stay close to home, whilst having more space to operate.

Having started as London’s smallest commercial brewery in 2017, growing to producing around 5000 pints a week in their current home, the team will be able to brew twice as much from day 1 on the new site, with plans to produce nearly 20,000 pints a week within the next 2 years.

“We were pretty sure we’d be financially ruined by this point so to make this move and join the community in Blackhorse Road is pretty ace!” said Co-Founders Sarah and James Casey “To be in such exciting brewing neighbourhood, making more beer than ever – our focus in on trying to not to f*ck it up!

“More capacity allows us to get more specials in, to get more experimental whilst ensuring we still have the favourites available all year round. It also allows us more space to focus on what we can offer the community down in Forest Gate – and we have something exciting coming in 2023 there! And with a percentage going towards causes driving change, more beers made means more impact. ”

The team plan to keep their Forest Gate taproom, maintaining a focus on pouring all of the freshest beers and hosting residencies from local food pop ups, with an announcement on some plans for the OG site coming soon.

The team brew a huge range of beers, aiming to release a new recipe each week, with a proportion of each sale going towards causes that drive change. Over the last 5 years, the brewery has supported a range of causes from local food banks to international water charities. Every beer will be poured across the 20 taps – as well as Alcohol Free, Gluten Free and Cider options and a rotating wine list focused on independent, sustainable solutions.

“We brew small batch, but big range” added James “Our aim is that everyone should feel included by what we offer – if you want to come and smash a Lager, smash a lager, if you’re into Sours, we’ll have something for you. We love brewing a lot of hop forward, hazy IPAs so you can expect plenty of those too. Our aim is everyone should feel included by what we offer.”
