Shepherd Neame turns to American hops for new Pale Ale

Hog Island East Coast Pale Ale is a 4.8% beer and the first American-style to be launched under the new banner.

The recipe originates from the Shepherd Neame pilot brewery but eschews the company’s tradition for using Kentish hops, by instead opting for Boadicea, Amarillo and Cascade.

These hops are combined with pale ale and crystal malts to create a ‘deep golden beer boasting citrus, pine and fruit aromas’ that are melded with light caramel notes and a robust bitterness.

Head brewer Richard Frost explained: “Hog Island is a really exciting addition to the No.18 Yard Brewhouse collection. It is a refreshing, zesty beer which retains the malty character of the typical East Coast pale ale.”

Hog Island East Coast Pale Ale will be available on draught nationwide from the beginning of March for one month only.
